Super Eagles defeat Venezuela 3-1 in friendly match

The Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated Venezuela 3-1 in a rather ill-tempered friendly match, that was played in Miami, US.
The first half of the match ended goalless, as both sides struggled to impose themselves on each other. Although Nigeria had plenty of possession, it was the South Americans who created the better scoring chances.
Four minutes into the second half, Brown Ideye put the Nigerians ahead, after Kwambe bombed down the right and delivered a low cross for him to tap in. Nosa Igiebor doubled the advantage, with a goal of sheer quality – the midfielder controlled the ball expertly on his chest and let fly from almost the halfway line.

The Venezuelans pulled one goal back, after a defensive mix-up and it took some brilliant goalkeeping from Austin Ejide to keep the Eagles ahead. They however got the third goal, when Newcastle star, Shola Ameobi, making his debut for his country of birth, used his strength to hold up the ball and set up Onazi Ogenyi to smash in from inside the box.
