Phillip Eta: 6 artistes that should not have taken home a Headies plaque this year

For those of us, who do not bother to attend every red, black or yellow carpet event in Lagos, we were almost not too surprised, when we woke up on Sunday morning and beheld the winners of this year’s Headies.
It is surely not the worst or most controversial set of winners ever. But here are SIX artistes that shouldn’t have left the Eko Hotels with an Headies plaque:
1. Wizkid – Revelation of the Year
For real? Are the organisers kidding us? If EME’s wonder boy, Wizkid, is being hailed as a revelation this year, it suggests to me, we knew not about his talent in 2011 or even 2010. The other nominees were a joke as well. Iceprince Zamani, Bez, Timi Dakolo, all revelations? What happened to Flowwsickk? Burna Boy? Dammy Krane? Chidinma?

Sick trolls are targeting new mum Adele with revolting jibes about KILLING her tiny son.
The online yobs began taunting the singer, 24, just minutes after the birth was confirmed on Saturday.

One said Adele’s baby should be killed because it will be “fat and disabled”.

A Twitter user with the name Vanessa Bieber told 4,000 followers: “Aw Adele gave birth to a baby. Is it fat and handicapped lol? Just murder it already lol.”

“The gap is very unpleasant” – Wenger angry over Arsenal’s league position

Arsene Wenger is still fuming, after the shock defeat to Norwich City last weekend. The loss leaves the Gunners ten points behind leaders Chelsea and the Frenchman says it is “an unpleasant” position to be in.
“We gave an easy game away and I am angry,” Wenger, who turns 63 today said. “In the end, Norwich gave us a good lesson, but it is one I would rather not have.
“They wanted the win more than us, showed more desire and it is hard for me to admit that. Too many lessons like this and you stand at the end of the season with too many regrets.”
“The gap is very unpleasant. We had an opportunity that Tottenham could win and we could win, and we both lost. That of course makes the gap a lot bigger.
“You cannot say you do not worry about that, but what is more disappointing is that we could not score. After we went 1-0 down we had the ball for 70 minutes and could not score a goal.”
The Arsenal boss was asked if he was making plans to buy a new striker in January, especially with a lack of firepower at Carrow Road.

FAAN names Dana Airline as Best Domestic Carrier in Nigeria

Despite a plane crash that claimed the lives of 153 people some months ago and the fact that families of victims of the crash might find it offensive, Dana Airline has been named the best domestic carrier for 2011 by the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
Over the weekend, FAAN’s Regional General Manager, Mr. Chris Bature, said the airline was awarded the prize for its good customer relations and prompt payment of dues. He also added that the airline was selected because of its outstanding performance. “Mode of selection includes passenger capacity, frequency of the landing and take-off, their response to payment of bills. Among the domestic carriers, they were the best. They had the best volume, they were punctual in their operations,” Guardian quoted him as saying.
Reacting to a question on the timing of the award which is coming four months after the June 3rd Dana Air crash, Mr Bature explained that the award would have taken place earlier in the year and that the reward came after the operator’s license had been restored.

God is faithful - 'How I got my miracle babies' - Chioma Ajunwa

Sunday Express publisher Mike Awoyinfa with Chioma and her triplets
'I was married for many years and when the child was not forthcoming, I was worried all the time, because I know that if you don't have a child, your marriage will not be that strong. In Igboland there's a saying that, 'a woman that does not have a child, her seat is kept outside. That was bothering me, though as a believer I wasn't that desperate over it. I wouldn't have a devilish child. I strongly believed in God that at His appointed time, it will come because I know he never fails. I did not ever entertain the thought that I could be barren. As a pastor, my husband was always consoling me, telling me to leave everything to God. In my mind I said 'I hear. Tomorrow you will go and marry another person, thank you very much!' When I was pregnant I asked God for so many things; the number one thing was that if this should become a reality, I promised God I will return the children to Him and I will give a giant offering. To God be the Glory, it came to pass. My babies are two boys and a girl; Joshua, Caleb and Rose.' Chioma Ajunwa Opara to Sunday Express

New Music: Bracket – Temperature (Inene)

Bracket are back with another tune, almost an experimental new sound too, on “Temperature”. This spanking new single infuses a little High-Life vibe to a very dominant Afro-Dance/Afro-Pop concept. And, you know a Bracket joint isn’t complete without the “love” angle.

13-year-old girl narrates how she escaped from ritualists

When Emmanuela, 13, a JSS student of Shadoff Secondary school, Igbogbo, set out on that fateful day for her usual Thursdays fellowship and faith clinic service at a church, little did she know that it was going to be the most horrifying experience of her life as a teenager.
But by divine intervention, Emmanuela returned to tell the grueling story of her kidnapp and how she was slated for rituals before God set her free. But other ten passengers could not live to tell their stories.
According to her, “I entered the bus from Igbogbo around 7pm. I was going to my church for our Thursday vigil. When I entered the bus, I noticed that all the passengers in the bus were sleeping. They were about ten. I felt something was wrong and I quickly told the driver to stop for me that I had forgotten my transport fare at home.

Mikel Obi explains why he started a record label

'Apart from football, music is another thing I had passion for while I was growing up in Jos. I have so much emotional attachment to music. It lifts my soul and makes me happy. The arrival of MMM Records (Matured Money Minds) has gone a long way to show the deep love I have for music. I want to contribute my little quota to the growth of the music industry in Nigeria. I'm a good song writer and singer. If I wasn't a footballer, I would have done well as a singer or a disc jockey (DJ)' - Mikel Obi

Bishop David Oyedepo comes under close watch of the British media, alleged exploitation

More attention has been drawn to the ‘pastorpreneur’ Bishop Oyedepo, a british media claimed that he now runs a church with a main aim of ‘cynical exploitation’. The british media revealed that, after its British branch received £16.7 million in donations from followers who were told that God would give them riches in return, more attention has been drawn to his wealth building church.
Followers are ferried in double-decker shuttle buses to the church, handed slips inviting them to make debit card payments, and are even told obeying the ministry’s teachings will make them immune from illness.
Yesterday’s Mail on Sunday revelations about the Winners’ Chapel movement have prompted the Charity Commission to review the charitable status of the church – one of the fastest-growing in the UK.

Ofilispeaks: Why Nigeria Needs An Aluu4 Mob Justice Prohibition Bill

Every person has a right to life, and no one shall be deprived intentionally of his life, save in execution of the sentence of a court in respect of a criminal offence of which he has been found guilty in Nigeria.” ‒ Nigerian Constitution: Chapter IV Section 33 Fundamental Rights
On October 5th, 2012, Chiadika Lordson, Kelechi Obuzor, Lloyd Toku and Tekena Erikena, all students at the University of Port-Harcourt,  were falsely accused of theft and severely beaten and burnt to death as scores of Nigerians stood and watched.
This scene Mob Justice has gradually become a normal way of life in Nigeria. As people/communities usurp the law and take matters into their own hands. Now we know that there are no dependable statistics or numbers regarding Mob Justice occurrences in Nigeria, but what we do know is that that has been happening for years. And for years we have complained, we have cried and we have watched, but nothing has changed as Mob Justice still occurs with its perpetrators largely going unpunished.
