Lagos bans LASTMA officials from driving impounded vehicles

The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Kayode Opeifa, on Tuesday said that officials of the State Traffic Management Authority had no right to drive impounded vehicles.
Opeifa made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
“It is unlawful for LASTMA official to drive vehicles that contravened the law, except the arrested motorist resisted arrest or has no driver’s licence, which is the only guarantee for any driver to be on the road.
“We have been hearing reports of our men driving arrested vehicles. However, in the course of driving the vehicle, if there is an accident, the officer involved will be held responsible.
“My advice is that when a vehicle is arrested, the offender should cooperate by coming to Alausa to redress the issue, which at times, after scrutiny, the offender may be allowed to go without any punishment,” he said.

Man impersonating Deputy Commissioner of Police arrested with charms in Abeokuta

On Monday Sept 24, 2012, security officials arrested a fake deputy commissioner of police in Ogun State Governor’s office in Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.
The fake police officer identified as Mr T.A Banjo at the time of his arrest was found in possession of charms.
He was nabbed while himself and 2 other people were trying to find their way to the office of the Secretary to the State Government, Mr.Taiwo Adeoluwa located within the same premises.
Suspicious of the way the suspects were moving within the Governor’s Office Complex, vigilant security operatives had promptly arrested them.
When interrogated by security operatives, Banjo reportedly claimed that three of them were on a visit to the governor’s office to see the Secretary to the State Government, Adeoluwa.

Back to square one: May-D sets up his own record label, Confam Entertainment

After months of silence, former Squareville act May D has resurfaced and has addressed the rumours of the label he is going to sign to. According to Hip Hop World Magazine, May D has taken the bold step of floating his own label. According to the site “May D, has floated his own record label. The artiste, who is known for his hit single, Ile Ijo, is to have started his label called “Confam Entertainment”.
He revealed this to us in a telephone interview and when asked if there is anybody else signed under the record label, he said “It’s just me now, I have some girl from UK but I’m still watching”.
The news story also went on to say that the singer is also set to release a video which was shot in Atlanta, to his song titled “Gat Me High” of his yet to be titled debut album.

SAD: Woman with 8-month pregnancy killed in Ebonyi while trying to steal crops at midnight

An eight-month-old pregnant woman, Mrs. Grace Nwangwu, was weekend, killed in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State while she was reportedly trying to steal some food crops in a farm near her house at midnight.
The woman was alleged to be sleeping on the same bed with her husband, Mgbebu till midnight when she left to ease herself outside but reportedly went to farm at Igbudu Community to harvest some food crops and was killed by her assailant.
In a neighbouring Imo State, one Madam Rose Chibuike was also said to have narrowly escaped being beheaded by an attacker along a lonely road at Umezeala, Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of the state by a machete-wielding man.
Vanguard investigations revealed that Madam Chibuike, who runs a pepper-soup joint in Umuezeala, is a native of Ikperejere, Ihitte Uboma Local Government Area of the state.

What could have led a man in his mid-thirties to steal pants? According to leadership:
A 35-year-old man, Azuka Mbadugbe, was on Monday docked before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing his landlady’s eight pants valued 80dollars (about N12,480).
Other items allegedly stolen by the accused include six leggies valued at 160dollars (N24,960), one Canon camera phone worth N250,000 and 36 pieces of umbrella costing N12,600.
Mbadugbe who lives at 2, Igi-Olugbi St., Bariga, Lagos, is facing a one-count charge of stealing. The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Insp. Kemi Adeniran, told the court that the accused had on Sept. 8 at about 4:30 p.m. burgled his landlady’s apartment at No. 2, Igi-Olugbi St., Bariga, Lagos, and stole the above-named items totalling N300,040. Adeniran said that the items belonged to one Mrs Adeola Alowonle.

National Theatre budget N22.8m for purchase of typewriters

In the 21st century when most of the world’s typewriter manufacturing companies have long closed shops, the National Theatre is spending a whopping sum of N22.8 million to purchase the few remaining ones.
Demand for the machines has sunk in the last 10 years as consumers switch to computers.
LEADERSHIP checks showed that typewriters are at the end of their line as most of the world’s typewriter manufacturers have closed down their plants or converted to other lines of productions.
The last standing typewriter factory in the world, Godrej and Boyce, is closing its plant in Mumbai, India. What remains are just several hundred typewriters, most of which are Arabic language models.
Although typewriters became obsolete years ago in the west, they were still common in India – until recently, reported the Daily Mail.
Typewriter sales have plummeted in the past several years: the company sold fewer than 800 machines in 2010, down from the 50,000 it produced every year in the 1990s.
“From the early 2000s onwards, computers started dominating. All the manufacturers of office typewriters stopped production, except us,” general manager Millind Dukle told the Business Standard. “We are not getting many orders now. But this might be the last chance for typewriter lovers. Now, our primary market is among the defence agencies, courts and government offices.”
Another one of Godrej and Boyce’s typewriter plants in Shirwal was shut down recently and is now used as a refrigerator manufacturing unit.

A 33-year-old man, Nkemakonam Nwoke is in trouble because he molested female minors. Nwoke who lived at 7, Chief Nwatu Street Emene, Enugu is said to have defiled eight female kids of ages ranging between 3 and 6 years at his neighborhood.

Nkem's molestation of the eight minors was unnoticed until one of the girls who could no longer cope reported to her mother that the man was doing 'bad-bad' things with them. With further probing , the said parent was able to get the truth from her daughter who confessed that the man was molesting eight of them one after the other. Consequently, parents of the victims contacted Mediating for the Less Privileged and Women Development and the man was arrested.

Narrating the story to our reporter in Enugu, Dr. (Mrs.) Betty Agujiobi who runs the NGO recalled how she got involved in the matter. Said she: "I received a distress call from Emene, so I rushed there and it was a case of a 33 year-old man defiling minors in his area. One of the children was no longer comfortable with his lewd tendencies and she had to report to her mother and that was how the community knew.

Kanye West’s Lawyers Block Publishing of Sex Tape .

 

 

Kanye West’s lawyers have issued a letter warning against publishing images or video from his alleged sex tape, which they say has been stolen.

A legal team acting on behalf of the ‘Monster’ rapper confirmed the X-rated video has been stolen from his computer and anyone posting any of it online will face serious legal repercussions.
A letter obtained by Allhiphop.com, by lawyer Lisa M. Buckley of Pryor Cashman reads: “Be advised that the Screen Shot, as well as the Tape from which the Screen Shot was taken, were illegally obtained and believed to have been stolen from Mr. West’s computer.
“You’re posting, advertising, marketing, displaying and otherwise disseminating the stolen Screen Shot and/or other materials on the Tape constitute actionable violations of Mr. West’s rights of privacy and publicity.”

Growing up in a country like Nigeria has a way of making you stronger than you even know. The strength to wake up everyday in our blessed country and hope for the best is one that comes from God. I often ask myself this question, “What is the future of the Nigerian Child”?

Some of these children go to bed each night and pray not to wake up the next day because they are unhappy. They have to walk long distances every morning to fetch several buckets of water, some are barely 5years old and have to take care of their younger ones. Others are even molested everyday by family members they trust, and the sad part is that they have no one to tell. On the other hand, we have the kids from the average family who get to eat three square meals a day while their parents struggle to keep them in decent schools. We also have the “lucky” ones otherwise known as the rich kids who are chauffeur-driven to school, can afford to buy anything they want and just generally get to live the “good” life.

Wicked mother kills twin babies, dumps them inside refuse

Just like the adage that goes ‘one man’s meat is another’s poison’, some couple have put in all efforts to conceive  and bear fruits, but are yet see their dreams come to reality while some effortlessly bear kids and callously dump them in dustbins, canals, dry wells and what have you.
Although such scenario is no longer new to people living in the slump and other urban areas of Anambra State, yet the residents of Okosu Street in Inland town were shocked waking one fateful morning to behold a gory sight of decomposing bodies of twin babies abandoned in a refuse dump.
Investigations revealed that the unfortunate babies were dumped by a woman suspected to be their mother.

The two boys who were trashed by their mother at about 3am yesterday were already decomposing before onlookers could come to their rescue.

One of the woman sympathizers who seemed so emotionally affected by the gory sight of the two innocent babies claimed that the mother of the twins could have strangled them to aid easy disposal, out of poverty or frustration but stressing that it is not enough reason to waste lives in that manner.

A 46 years old man, Mr. Kelechi Nnali of Nkpogoro, Ndibe in Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State was weekend allegedly caught having carnal knowledge with a sheep along the roadside in the community.
It was gathered that Nnali who is married with two wives and children pleaded with the boy who saw him committing the crime not to tell anybody, promising that he would give him (the boy) N10,000 and a handset but the cat was let out of the bag when Mr. Nnali renege on the agreement.
Vanguard learnt that when the act of bestiality committed by Mr. Nwali filtered into the ears of the people of the area, he was summoned by the elders of the community to answer to the allegation as the matter was later taken to Ogo Ezinwachi Play ground where delicate and public matter are usually discussed.
At the venue, Mr. Nnali was sanctioned according to the law of the land. The elders, who were visibly angry with the depraved act, stressed that the man had committed an abomination in the land and must pay the price according to the law of the land.
It was gathered that to cleanse the land of the abominable act, that elderly women of Ndibe had last weekend performed a traditional ablution called Npkompko in Mr. Nnali’s compound.
However, at the time of this report, vanguard could not get the owner of the sheep and the culprit to comment on the matter as Mr. Nnali was reported to have fled the community for fear of being lynched by irate youths of the area.

TOO BAD:Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company staff arrested with fake N1,000 notes

Police in Lagos have arrested a staff of the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company, NSPMC, for allegedly being in possession of fake N900,000 (nine hundred thousand naira) in N1,000 denomination.
The suspect, who identified himself as Osakpolo Igbinosa from Edo State, said the fake naira notes were not actually printed by him but were the ones that were yet to reach the final stage of printing by NSPMC where he works as a material security officer.
He said he had been perpetrating the criminal act since 2010 until he was recently arrested by crack detectives attached to ‘Area N’ Command Headquarters Ijede in Ikorodu, a suburb of Lagos.
According to him, he had gone to a nearby bureau de change operator to have the money exchanged for American Dollars, when the Hausa operator raised an alarm and alerted the police.
Igbinosa said: “The notes are not fake per se. But the difference is that they have not reached the final state of production and so there are no serial numbers on them.
“I did not print them contrary to what I am hearing. These notes are genuine ones and were printed by my company, but I stole them because I needed to offset some debt.”
