Not again - 14 killed in renewed attacks in Plateau State

Nigerian Police yesterday confirmed that militants have in less than a week killed 14 people including three children in attacks across trouble spots in Plateau State.

The state has witnessed scores of violence involving the Fulani, an ethnic group of Muslim devotees, and indigenous Christian communities.

It is still unclear who was behind the latest violence.

Plateau State Police Command spokeman ASP Emmanuel Abuh was quoted as saying “Yesterday at about 1900 hours 6pm, two men who were half-brothers were shot dead by unknown gunmen who ambushed them.”

“A woman and her three children were also killed in their home,” saying the Tuesday attacks happened in the Riyom local government area, near the state capital Jos.

The family killings followed an attack during the weekend in the Barkin Ladi area of Plateau that saw eight people shot dead, Abuh added.

Nigeria First Lady's Trip Home Is Canceled

The highly anticipated return trip to Nigeria of the First Lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, has again been canceled by her hospital in Germany.
A source at the hospital said Mrs. Jonathan could not be discharged to leave today as was requested by her husband because there are still several unresolved issues concerning her health.
SaharaReporters was unable to determine what those issues are, but it seems obvious that her condition is still poor.  Only a few days ago, however, the presidency, through spokesman Reuben Abati, said she was in good health.

Robbers break in Kwara State Ministry of Finance, cart away money, documents, backups

Burglars have made an unprecedented break-in at the Kwara State Ministry of Finance, carting away undisclosed amounts of money as well as all documents, including their electronic backups, which detailed government transactions since 2003.

A top government functionary told SaharaReporters that the burglars first attempted to break into the Accountant General’s office in the Ministry in the early hours of Friday, September 21, but the guards and the burglary-proof doors foiled the attack. The attackers returned on Saturday night armed with different tools grenades and even a power generator with which they broke into the offices where the documents and money were kept, the source said.

The burglary story first surfaced on Twitter, where a whistleblower mentioned it last Tuesday, prompting a terse response from Dr. Muideen Akorede, Governor Abdulfattah Ahmed’s spokesman, who dubbed the incident a “robbery” that is investigation.
