Federal Polytechnic Closes Down After Massacre Of Students

The Federal Polytechnic Mubi, Adamawa State in which over 20 students were killed by unidentified gunmen last night has been closed down and students asked to go home.
Although, the school has not issued a formal statement to the press, a source in the school told SaharaReporters that examination that started today has also been suspended indefinitely.
The source also said that thousands of students have fled the school and Mubi town. A fearful student population fled to avoid falling victim of further attacks as their parents kept calling them over the  phone to return to their homes in different parts of the country.
As at the time of filing this report, no group has claimed responsibility of the killings.

UNBELIEVABLE: 27-year-old man cuts off his hands to stop him from stealing - Do such people still exist who fear God enough to cut their hands to stop them from stealing?

According to the bible, if your eyes will lead you to sin, pluck it out! and that is exactly what Egyptian, Ali Afifi did only he didn’t pluck out his eyes but cut off his hands from his wrists.
Ali took the severe decision following his inability to stop stealing and the feeling of guilt that comes over him after every act of theft.
In a situation he described asa ‘battle pitched’ against the devil, Afifi, 27, went to the main train station in the western Egyptian town of Tanta four years ago and waited for the train to approach where he was before dipping his hands under its wheels as hundredsof other train passengers watched in horror.
Following the shock of what happened, Afifi’s father sent him to an assylum. Following his release, Afifi sought the help of a local Islamic scholar to assist in chopping off the other wrist but the man refused citing the fact that he was not a ruler nor in a position to make that decision.
Rather, the Islamic scholar advised him to repent and seek God’s help. Left with no other choice, Afifi decided to carry out the act by himself.
According to him(Afifi), “when I was finally released from theassylum a few months ago, I cut the other hand off to make sure I’ll never steal again.

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday marked the 52nd Independence Anniversary inside the Aso villa. Remarkably, that was the second time in a row that the country’s leader shunned public commemoration.
What was however surprising to many was the President’s outfit. He was clad in General’s regalia, apparently to observe his legitimate title as the commander-in-chief of the country’s armed forces.
Since his appearance with the General’s regalia, he has come under severe criticism by Nigerians, even as many have wondered what could be the significant of such costume on such a day. Many have suggested that he should have reserved the military attire for the armed forces remembrance day. An analyst said, “I was shocked and will like to know the reason behind the dress. It was such a disgrace to our founding fathers; and let him be reminded that Nigeria did not earn her independence through military confrontation or exploits.”
It was probably the first time a democratic elected president of west-African giant would be seen on military uniform and on the celebration of Independence, which holds every other October.

End of a saga: Omojuwa receives new iPad from Arik Air

Japheth Omojuwa’s long running battle with Arik Air, appears to be over. The social media activist began the war with the airline, after his Apple iPad tablet got missing on a flight.
There was a lot of back and forth between both parties. And the spat resulted in Arik blacklisting Omojuwa, banning him from boarding any of their flights, as he was now perceived as a security risk.
Yesterday however, Omojuwa took to Twitter to break news about the successful peace talks. “Let me state here that I do not hold any grudge against anyone for their stand on the iPad issue irrespective of where they stood,” he said.
“I just collected a new iPad 3 from Arik with a typad. Closing that chapter. I will not judge anyone based on the iPad issue.”
He also confirmed that he will be aboard an Arik flight that was flying yesterday.

1. He’s jealous because he loves you – Not always. The average guy is territorial. It has a lot to do with our desire to conquer than with romantic feelings. Even if you’re just his sex partner, he wouldn’t be so comfortable watching you receive phone calls from your other sex partners. Of course we hide it well sometimes! We act like we don’t care when we really do. Some say guys are more jealous than ladies but I don’t know. I do know though that a guy getting jealous over you is not an indication of love. Here’s the logic: jealousy over you isn’t love for you but love for you will include jealousy over you.
2. He just wants to be friends – I’m sure ladies are smarter than this but really, some just act all naïve when it comes to other guys. No guy sets out deliberately from the onset to be just friends, we all missed our way to ‘Love-Land’ or ‘Booty-Arena’ and found ourselves in this strange place called ‘Friend-Zone’. Your being comfortable with us as friends doesn’t mean we don’t keep dreaming of the day you’ll suddenly realise that the backrub at the end of a long day flew in on the wings of the hope of something sexual or romantic.

“We’ll strike again if…” – Boko Haram warns

Radical Islamist sect, Boko Haram has issued another threat via Youtube to all anti-Boko Haram groups that they better let them be or face the wrath of their bullets. According to one of the group’s kingpins, Imam Muhammad Shekau in an eight-minute video message entitled “Message To The World”, the sect vowed that all the traditional rulers especially those against their activities would know no peace.
He said: “This short message is to traditional rulers who have been conspiring against us, that they have no hidden places for conspiring against our commitment and worship of Allah. They have entered our way and have no hidden places any more, this they should know.
“The message is for three purposes, all plans against Prophet Mohammed and Muslims will not succeed and just wait and see what we will do.
The second is, they are arresting and molesting our members who are just serving Allah. We did not even talk and now they have continued capturing our women, this week about seven women were captured and we don’t even know where they are, but they are being held by infidel enemies of Allah. In fact, they are even having sex with one of them.
Allah, Allah, see us and what we are going through. It is in one place that they are holding seven women, in other places they are more than that. Only Allah knows the actual number of our women being held, women who are married in accordance with Islamic law.
They also debunked that there has been no peace talk between them and the federal government.
Iman added: “In another way they are spreading that we are talking with them, it is a blatant lie. There is nobody that we are discussing with. It is a lie and mischief that they are talking with Boko Haram using fake names, and they are boasting that they have found solution.
It is a lie, you have not found solution. Rubbish and useless liars, there is no single person that you have sat with.
“You are killing our people and at the same time, they are saying they are dialoguing with us. Lies, they are only killing us, they are only killing us. See their lies, they went to the world that they are dialoguing with us, later on they came up, saying they have killed and captured our leaders.

Independence Day tragedy: Gunmen blow up Anambra hotel, kill two policemen

Gunmen on Monday shot and killed two policemen on patrol at Abor Akuzor, Umusoime, Nkpor in Anambra State. Some other policemen on patrol with the cops were also injured in the incident.
The policemen were said to be attached to the Ogidi Police Station, Idemili North Local Government Area.
The gunmen were also said to have led some people to destroy part of a hotel building under construction in the area.
The building allegedly belongs to the Chairman of Abor Akuzor kindred, Chief Okechukwu Nwafoagu.
The killing of the two policemen came on the heels of a similar killing of a woman, Ogechi Okechukwu, on Sunday by gunmen, who attacked the village.
The hoodlums were alleged have used explosives suspected to be dynamite to destroy the mega hotel.
The Abor Akuzor people have been embroiled in a land dispute with their neighbouring Oramadike people in Ogidi.
The dispute, which sometimes turned violent, has led to loss of lives and destruction of property.
The Monday attack on Abor Akuzor was the third since May this year. The hotel, which is at the roofing stage, was attacked and property including generators, were set ablaze.
The Police Monitoring Unit, Force Headquarters, had, because of the killings and destruction, summoned the Chairman of Abor Akuzor and his Oramadike counterpart to Abuja, where they were made to sign an undertaking to maintain the peace and order.
Nwafoagu, whose hotel and property were destroyed, blamed the police for not acting early on the information his people had given them.
He said, “In all the attacks, I have always called the security agencies in and outside the state and sent text messages to all their heads. I have been saying it that the activities of these hoodlums should be checked to avoid loss of lives.
“My people have provided necessary information on where to arrest them, their source of arms, yet these information have not been acted upon.”

The Whitney Houston family’s reality TV series, called ‘The Houstons: On Our Own’ is set to debut on 24th October, 2012. 

The show details how they have coped since the death of their famous and wealthy family member, Whitney.

Formerly called “The Houston Family Chronicles,” the new reality series would be 14 half hour episodes.

The show will star the singer’s sister-in-law/manager Pat Houston, as she tries her best to help Whitney Houston’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina deal with the pressure that comes along with celebrity life.

Bobbi Kristina’s mom and pop legend, Whitney Houston, died in February, 2012 at the Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills on the eve of the Grammy Awards.

The outspoken and self-adoring Portuguese has fought several notable battles off and on the pitch wherever he has coached. Gunshots cause fresh scare in Lagos

Policemen attached to the Rapid Response Squad on Tuesday morning patrolled Mobolaji Bank-Anthony Way in Ikeja, Lagos State after gunshots rang out near Sheraton Hotel.
The policemen, in vans and motorcycles, and with guns at the ready, patrolled the busy road from the intersection at Joel Ogunnaike Street to Maryland and back.
A PUNCH correspondent, who drove past the police patrol, noticed that even drivers of the vans rode with rifles on their laps.
Reports said some unidentified gunmen fired shots near the upscale hotel, although it could not be confirmed if they attacked motorists or any offices.
However, it was suspected that the gunmen had planned to raid parts of Lagos, in the same fashion as a gang of armed robbers rode through some parts of the metropolis some weeks ago, killing and robbing motorists, policemen and foreign exchange traders.

Dozens of students 'shot dead' in Nigeria - Aljazeera

At least 25 people, mostly students, killed by unknown gunmen in northeastern town of Mubi, police officials say.

Dozens of college students have been killed by attackers in the northeastern Nigerian town of Mubi in Adamawa state, police say. A senior police official told Al Jazeera that unknown gunmen went into campus hostels used by students at Federal Polytechnic Mubi, and killed at least 25 people. Local officials confirmed that the attack had taken place. Yushau Shuaib, a National Emergency Management Agency spokesperson, said that "a number of people" had died. Local security officials were on their way to the scene. A recent raid on Mubi by the military had uncovered a large cache of weapons and ammunition, with many suspects rounded up. Adamawa state has been hit by violence blamed on Boko Haram, an armed group that is fighting agianst Western influence in Nigeria and wants to form an Islamic state. Officials also pointed out, however, that the school had recently held a students' election. Shuaib said initial reports indicated one of the victims was a candidate in the poll.

US embassy discriminate against pregnant Nigerian women?

The United States’ embassy in Nigeria seems to have perfected the art of denying well-meaning and legitimate non-immigrant Nigerian mothers visa for reasons best known to it. At the end of visa interview sessions, what one hears is, ‘’You are not qualified at this time’’! Women of child-bearing age are asked questions such as: Are you pregnant at this time? How many children do you have? Do you plan to have more children? And if the response to any of these questions is in the affirmative, then the next set of questions may be: Do you plan to have the baby in America? Can you afford to pay the medical bills? You are probably asked to show evidence and even after showing evidence you are told mostly that you do not qualify at this time or that you should reapply after having your baby.

Please note that there have been cases when female applicants did not even know they were pregnant during the interview and later discovered in the weeks to follow! Obviously, a married woman who is sexually active can become pregnant at anytime even with the use of contraceptives. Asking these kinds of questions during interviews is not a way to determine the purpose of the interview, which is to determine if the visa applicant is an intending immigrant. Finding out if an applicant is pregnant or plan to become pregnant soon, has nothing to do with the application but is an unnecessary invasion of privacy.

‘We give God the praise for the arrival of our baby boy today…Baby, mother and myself are doing perfectly well. Praise be Jehovah God!‘, Aremu said.

In 2011, Aremu tied the knot with Omolara at a private wedding in England.

2 Nigerian students face deportation from Canada for working at Walmart

The 19-year-old takes style inspiration from the cartoons and computer animations that have a huge following in Japan, and has even adopted a Japanese name – Fukkacumi.
Shpagina, who is just 5ft2ins tall, is already reported to have slimmed down to just over six stone in her attempts to resemble a living anime character, and is said to spend 30 minutes painstakingly applying her dramatic make-up to each one of her eyes .

Sokoto Police arrest Christian attempting to board Hajj flight

A 29-year old Plateau state-born teacher, Lohnan Joseph, has been intercepted while trying to board a Saudi Arabia bound flight at Sultan Abubakar III International Airport, Sokoto on Sunday.
Joseph, a Christian and a former teacher at Global Kids Academy, Sokoto, was said to have joined the screening line of Zamfara State intending pilgrims, who were about to board the flight in the early hours of Sunday.
Speaking to newsmen, Alhaji Mukhtari Lugga, the Zamfara Commissioner for Environment and one of the state’s Hajj officials, who was among the people who spotted and consequently intercepted the suspect, said that “Joseph just came from nowhere and joined their line during the screening.”
“He was easily identified as an alien among them because he was not wearing the uniform. This was what drew our attention to him and we quickly notified the police who came and picked him up for interrogation.”
Lugga said that 40 pieces of 10,000 France Franc, eight pieces of 5,000 France Franc, one piece of 1,000 France Franc and N610 in different denominations were found in his possession as well as his personal belongings and credentials concealed in a black bag.
Asked why he, as a Christian, joined the line of pilgrims boarding a hajj flight, Joseph said: “I am a Nigerian, so I don’t believe in discrimination, whether you are a christian or Muslim”.
He also said that he wanted to be like Herbert Macaulay, whom he read, had travelled to London amidst difficulties.
Joseph also said that his mission was not to travel but only to visit the airport and come back.
