Like a scene straight from a Nollywod make-believe flick, the Ilorin
Customary court recently witnessed what looks like a movie when a
petitioner alleged that his estranged wife lied to him that their
five-year-old son had died.
The 55-year-old man, Saadu Aliu, a native of Idi-Ose area said he was shocked to see his ‘dead’ son playing football recently.
He was seeking the custody of his five-year-old son, Aminu, who his ex
wife, Afusat Ibrahim of Opo-Malu area in Iliorin told him had died.
Aliu told the court that the child had been living with Afausat since 2010 when their marriage hit the rock.
According to him, the union was blessed with three children, noting that
the older ones, Ibrahim, 10, and Alimatu, 7 are living with him while
the ‘late’ son was with her.
Visibly shocked and angry Aliu said: “Afusat told me and my relatives
that the boy was dead, but to my surprise, I saw my child playing
football with his colleagues.”
Refuting the allegations leveled against her, Afusat claimed he never
told him the child was dead. She alleged that her ex-hubby had been
denying her access to the other two children living with him.
The presiding judge, Mr. Yusuf Abdulkareem, ordered the plaintiff to
produce two witnesses next Monday, September 17, while the defendant
should also bring along five-year-old Aminu.
