Top English Premiership club Chelsea FC have signed Senegalese striker Demba Ba from Newcastle United on a three-and-a-half year deal for an undisclosed fee.
‘It feels good to be here, I’m very happy and very proud’, the 27-year-old told the Chelsea club website
‘When the club who won the Champions
League wants you, the decision is very easy. This club is massive and
that’s something that helped the decision a lot. It was not a hard one’.
Ba moved from West Ham United to Newcastle in June 2011. He will now replace striker Daniel Sturridge, who left Stamford Bridge to join Liverpool this week.
Ba will be eligible to play Saturday’s
FA Cup match at Southampton and the Capital One Cup semi-final against
Swansea, but cannot play in the Europa League campaign, having played
for Newcastle in the same competition
Ba has scored 13 league goals this
season and scored 29 league goals in 54 games for Newcastle since he
arrived on a free transfer from West Ham 18 months ago.
