SHE IS INNOCENT(SAVE YINKA JOHNSON)- Banker accused of murder of Lastma Official

This is the case of LASTMA vs  YINKA JOHNSON: a taste of our dark age. On Friday August 10th, mother of 3 and banker with Stanbic IBTC, Yinka Johnson, was arrested by the police for allegedly crushing an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority to death while driving against traffic along the Lekki Expressway.

According to LASTMA, Yinka killed Hammed Balogun by driving recklessly while trying to evade arrest. But Yinka and her friends have denied the accusation, claiming Hammed was hit and killed by a Danfo driver that was also trying to avoid arrest.

 Firstly, she drove on the dusty side-walk against traffic but not on the road, with the intention of crossing at an intersection, as most in that area have been doing for the past few months due to ongoing construction. Thus the credibility of the one way allegation is at best arguable for now.

Secondly, when LASTMA stopped and threatened to tow her car, an argument ensued involving passers-by who felt it was unjustifiable to impound the car. Not wanting to damage the car by allowing the use of the tow van, she opted that the car be driven along with the lastma men who now entered the car. She was sitting in her stationary vehicle right beside the lastma official when a second official came and told the one beside her that he should come as their colleague is dead.

How this happened, neither Yinka nor the lastma official beside her had the faintest idea. Then they attempted to put the corpse in her car. When onlookers saw she was about to be framed, someone (a man) jumped into the driver’s seat and reversed the car all the way back into her estate beside Mega Chicken and the Estate security attempted to protect her but lastma officials (now reinforced) forced their way, gave the rescuing driver the beating of his life (he has a scar below his right eye now), commandeered the car and drove it to Ajah police station to file an allegation of murder. Note, she was not arrested. Few hours later she went to the same police station to make a report but lo and behold there was already a false allegation of murder against her and she is now detained with her 2months old baby, which she had by Caesarian Section. These are the true facts of the case. The deceased was nowhere near Yinka’s car.
