It was indeed a shocking moment of betrayal recently in Onitsha,
Anambra State as a lady was arrested for allegedly organizing the
kidnapping of her childhood friend. It was gathered that the suspect,
Ekwy Okadigbo, lured her friend who is a legal practitioner, Mimiy
Onyekweli to a restaurant where she invited her to abduct her.
The victim was, however, fortunate as investigation revealed that
her car that they wanted to use to take her to their den just refused
to work when Onyekweli was blindfolded inside. And in the confusion,
the victim escaped from her abductors and alerted the police.
Okadigbo’s grouse with her friend, according to her, was that she
refused to give her money when she requested.
“She was said to have informed the suspected gang leader, Chinedu of
the bad habit of her childhood friend who was said to be greedy and
tight fisted,” a police source revealed. Interestingly, two days before
Okadigbo allegedly lured her friend into the hand of the suspected
gang, Onyekweli’s father saw the friends together and happily gave
Okadigbo N500.000. Following a tip-off from the victim’s relation, the
state Police Command, Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), led by James
Nwafo, a Superintendent, mobilized his men to arrest members of the
gang.
Two days after, Onyekweli was said to be eating at a restaurant and
called Ekwy to join her there as she was eating. As they were eating
that Ekwy allegedly called her gang and they stormed the restaurant
around 6.30pm and kidnapped Onyekweli and put her inside her car. When
the kidnappers entered the car, it refused to start, a quarrel ensued
among them and this led the victim to escape and reported the case at
SARS Office in Awka. The officer in charge of SARS, Supol Jame Nwafor
(SP), who along with his team and arrested Okadigbo.
