CBN Governor Lamido Sanusi replies Former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s Criticism of new N5000 notes – “You’re a good farmer but a bad economist”

The media sphere has been agog with news of the Central Bank Governor, Lamido Sanusi‘s reaction to former President Olusegun Obasanjo‘s recent statement against the introduction of the new N5000 notes and from it, I picked up something interesting I wanted to share.
In his reaction, the Central Bank Governor was quoted as calling the former President “a good farmer but a bad economist”.
Earlier on, Mr Obasanjo had criticised the introduction of new N5000 notes saying it would increase inflation. He also added that it would kill production and affect small businesses negatively.
However, Mr. Sanusi in his reaction said that he was surprised that the former President could oppose the proposed N5,000 note given that the high currency denominations in the country, including N1000 note, came into being during his (Obasanjo) regime.
“This is an interesting country because my uncle or my father, who is our former Head of State, Gen. Obasanjo, you know he is a very successful farmer, but he is a very bad economist. He stand up and says that this higher denomination  will cause inflation and improve hardship,” Punch quoted him as saying.

Too bad : After a Glorious Paralympics Outing, Team Nigeria Returns Home to a Low Profile Reception

Team Nigeria returned from the recently concluded London 2012 Paralympic Games yesterday to a very low profile reception, unbefitting of a team that brought glory to Nigeria.
At the Paralympic games, the team won 13 medals which includes 6 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze. They also made four world records, came third position in Africa and finished in the 22nd position in the world.
Channels TV reports that when the 29-man team arrived the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) at about 2.30pm on Tuesday afternoon, there was no official of National Sports Commission on hand to receive them.
In an interview with some of the athletes, they complained that special sports was not given due recognition in Nigeria and that the government should accord them similar respect and reward as their able counterparts.

Shocking: Woman gives birth to horse in Benin Church

Some residents of Benin, the Edo State capital were shocked at the World Liberation Ministry, located along old Sapale-Benin Express road where a woman gave birth to a horse during the church service.
Confusion raided that air when the worshipers at the church witnessed a crying Horse instead of a crying baby.
The General Overseer of the Church, Evangelist Silva Wealth, who narrated the ugly incident to reporters, said a woman whom he refused to disclose her identity was screaming during the prayer session and later on began to bleed from her private part before delivering the horse.
Wealth said further that members of the church were shocked following what the woman gave birth to.
According to him, “the Lord has revealed to me during the prayers session that there was a woman with an issue and that something was blocking her womb. As the prayers intensified, the woman started screaming and bleeding started when the object came out.
“I cannot touch it and that was why I don’t know if the horse was already dead or not. I can’t describe the object. We have seen people that vomited several things during our service but not this type of thing. God has been blessing our ministry with prophesies and miracles, “he said.

Manchester United face anxious wait over injuries to Van Persie, Kagawa

Manchester United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson, will be hoping to have two of his new signings, Robin van Persie and Shinji Kagawa, available for action as soon as possible.
The Dutch striker, picked up a suspected thigh injury, while on international duty against Hungary and was replaced by Klaas-Jan Huntelaar for the start of the second half.
“We took off Robin for precautionary measures. It doesn’t seem to be too serious, but you never know. We didn’t want to take any risks,” the national team coach, Luis Van Gaal told SBS6.
