Nigerian student charged with drug trafficking in Malaysia

 


A Nigerian student was charged at the Magistrates Court Wednesday with three counts of drug trafficking involving 40.658 kg of methaphetamine and heroin here last month.
On the first and second charge, Ngwu Aloysius Obinna, 34, was charged with trafficking in 3.108 kg and 23.717 kg of methaphetamine at Menara Hartamas, Jalan Hartamas 3, Taman Sri Hartamas, at about 8.40pm on Aug 31. He was also charged with trafficking in 13.833 kg of heroin at the same place and time.
All the charges were made under Section 39 B (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 39 B (2) of the same act, which carries the mandatory death sentence, if convicted.
No plea was recorded and Magistrate Erry Shahriman Nor Aripin set Nov 19 for mention. Insp Muhamad Sapri Yaakub appeared for the prosecution while Parvinder Singh Deol represented the accused.
