Wande Coal denies leaving Mavin Records

Wande Coal says the report that he is leaving Mavin Records, with Don Jazzy's blessings, to start his own record label called Black Diamonds, is 100% false. He released a statement via Mavin Records' website yesterday. See it below...

Award-winning singer/songwriter, Wande Coal, of Mavin Records has announced in a press statement that he has no plans to set up his own record label. The Mavin artist has emphatically denied online reports, stating that he that he wished to set up his own music label. The RnB star reaffirmed his commitment to Don Jazzy’s label and insisted that Mavin provided an enabling environment for him to realize all his ambitions as an artist.

In the press statement Wande Coal expressed his anger at the rumours being peddled that he is dissatisfied with the operations of Mavin Records. He equally stated that he and Don Jazzy had never once discussed the possibility of setting up a new label. He added that it was quite unfortunate that reputable entertainment magazines were sharing unconfirmed news.

New storm hits New York and New Jersey after Sandy

Tens of thousands of residents in New York and New Jersey have again lost power as a winter storm hit areas still recovering from Sandy's devastating impact. Some people were again forced to leave their homes and public transport was affected.

Winds gusted at up to 60mph (100km/h) bringing down trees and power lines.
New Jersey state Governor Chris Christie said: "I am waiting for the locusts and pestilence next."

Power companies in the two states report more than 100,000 customers suffered outages. Some 650,000 buildings were already without electricity one week after storm Sandy struck, killing more than 100 people in the US.

A 21-year-old Nigerian foreign student, Nana Skari, recently emerged the most outstanding graduating student of University of Kent in the United Kingdom.
She graduated with a first class Bachelor of Engineering degree at the institution’s Department of Computer Systems Engineering at the Kent’s University.
Taking a look at the school’s profile, the University of Kent founded in 1965, is best known for its world-class research, excellent teaching and an inspiring student experience with international links across nations.
The university is also frequently ranked among the top 30 in British universities. So, with this kind of background, one can imagine how proud it is for Nana, a Nigerian, to study engineering at this prestigious university and graduate with a first class degree.
Even, apart from being the overall best student, Nana also won a separate outstanding award in engineering.
What makes her award unique is the fact that it was given to her by the country’s Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), a national body in charge of accreditation of all engineering,
computing, multimedia, and information technology programmes at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the UK.
Born in Borno State, Nana at an initial stage of her education, had thought of studying paediatric neurosurgery.
Why she couldn’t go for pediatric neurosurgery was not because she didn’t meet up with the basic requirement qualifying her for admission into the course, it was because she preferred to study a course she said she has a natural flair for. In her words, she said: “A course I enjoy doing.”

Unguarded Movie Premiere: Uche Jombo-Rodriguez, Ramsey Nouah, Desmond Elliot, Emem Isong All In New York City

On Saturday, Nov. 3^rd well known Nigerian Actress Uche Jombo-Rodriguez was in New York City to attend the premiere of the movie, UNGUARDED. The premiere was held at the Gold Ballroom of Hotel Pennsylvania located in midtown, Manhattan.

Other Nollywood favorites and cast members in attendance include Ramsey Nouah, Desmond Elliot, and Esosa Edosonmwan. Who were supported by fellow acting colleagues Emem Isong and Monalisa Chinda.

The premiere kicked off at about 8.30pm with a full-house of fans in attendance to enjoy what the producers had promised would be the best movie of the year; which based on the resounding applause and reviews when the curtains came down about two hours later was sure proof that the fans were not disappointed. UNGUARDED is a story about a man (played by Ramsey Nouah) who fell deeply in love with a girl (Esosa Edosonmwan), and was ready to take the next step only to find out that she had other plans which definitely didn’t include him. She leaves him devastated and damaged; and his actions here on out are unforgivable until he meets someone special (played Uche Jombo).

Fans were very impressed not just with the storyline, but the overall production of the movie. From the stellar performance and delivery of the cast, to the directing and film-editing, and even the music composition everything was well executed which together brought about a great movie. UNGUARDED is produced by Chisom Oz-lee/Best Icon Productions and directed by Desmond Elliot.

Okada rider arraigned for stripping self

The Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit has charged the okada rider who allegedly stripped himself on Acme Road, Ogba on Monday to the state special court in Alausa.

The government said the rider, Mr. Sunday Udoh, 38, stripped himself to evade arrest for violating the road traffic law and possibly expose the policemen who wanted to arrest him to attacks from sympathisers.

The Taskforce Chairman, Superintendent Bayo Sulaiman, said Udoh’s action constituted public nuisance and was a violation of the traffic law.

After pleading not guilty to the charge, the court granted Udoh bail in the sum of N100,000 and one surety.

Cobhams, 9ice, Waje, Omawumi and others set for Lagos Jazz Series

The organizers of the Nigeria Jazz concert are warming up for the 2012 edition of the Lagos Jazz Series slated to hold at Oriental Hotel, the Muri Okunola Park and the Federal Palace Hotel on different dates starting from Friday, November 16- Sunday, November 18, 2012.

The show which is in its third edition will feature Nigerian acts likes Burna Boy, 9ice, Omawumi, Waje, Cobhams Asuquo, and  Becca from Ghana.

The show will be headlined by international jazz acts like Bob James, Roy Hargrove, Nathan East, Lura among others.

The Jazz series which is one of the biggest Jazz music festivals in Nigeria is organized annually by the Lagos Jazz Series Group founded by Oti Bazunu in 2010.

Return of Dana Air: Company assure Nigerians on safety, says it would acquire new aircraft

The management of Dana Air has said it has commenced talks with aircraft manufacturers to renew its fleet of aircraft.

The troubled airline, had however kept mum when asked which type of aircraft it would acquire, assuring Nigerians of safety.

It added that foreign auditors and Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had subjected its existing aircraft to airworthiness scrutiny.

Making this known recently, Mr. Obi Mbanuzuo, the Head Commercial of Dana Airlines said the company was putting everything together in order to avoid the repetition of the last ugly situation that sent many Nigerians to their early grave.

He said: “Our airplanes have been flying under the inspection of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, to check that everything is operationally ready and the aircraft are air worthy.

“We also have a lot of auditing by NCAA to look at our airplane. We also got foreign auditors involved to come and audit our airplanes, just to instill confidence.

“Very soon, our Air Operators Certificate, AOC, would be received, which will enable Dana Airlines commence operation.

Nigerian Girls Invent Urine-Powered Generator

Possibly one of the more unexpected products at Maker Faire Africa this year in Lagos is a urine powered generator, created by four girls. The girls are Duro-Aina Adebola (14), Akindele Abiola (14), Faleke Oluwatoyin (14) and Bello Eniola (15).

The generator is on display at an exhibition in Lagos Nigeria where people from the tiniest villages to those from big cities are talking about making stuff. This is part of an initiative by ‘Maker Faire Movement’ which seeks to showcase how traditional handicrafts can be a solution in the wake of expensive robot.

Their invention ensures that 1 Liter of urine gives you 6 hours of electricity.

Born on Election Day! Kenyan Woman Names New Born Twins “Barack & Mitt”

It is no news that Kenyans really love the US President, Barack Obama; after all he is a son of the soil. But can we say that they love Mitt Romney just as much? Just maybe.

A Kenyan woman who gave birth on the day of the United States of America’s Presidential Elections has named her new-born twin boys Barack and Mitt. Millicent Owuor, 20, gave birth to the twins in south-west Kenya on the 6th of November, 2012 and named them after the US President Barack Obama and his Republican challenger Mitt Romney.

BBC reports that a short distance from the hospital, at the Obama family’s ancestral village of Kogelo, people were celebrating his victory. The new mother said she named the first twin Barack and the second one Mitt after the winning and losing US presidential candidates in order to remember the day of the vote. For her, she would never forget the day of the US elections.

Mr. Obama’s father was born in Kenya and his step-grandmother, Sarah Obama, still lives in the village of Kogelo.

Barack Obama senior died in a road accident in Kenya in 1982.

Okada ban: “Fashola should re-brand, license and restrict them” – Dr. Oladele

The Lagos State Government is working on a number of options to engage genuine commercial motorcycle operators, recently thrown out of jobs as a result of the implementation of the new traffic law, in meaningful ventures.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Kayode Opeifa, dropped the hint in Lagos on Wednesday, stressing that the move was meant to give only the registered operators a new lease of life.

Many of the okada riders, as the commercial motorcycle operators are called, have had to abandon the business, as the new law prohibits them from plying major roads and bridges in the state. According to the new traffic law, only those with 200cc engine capacity can operate in the permitted areas.

We got married just 3 years ago and here I’m trying to battle out of some addiction. I know it’s shameful, but it’s really hard for me to fight.
