The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had disclosed on Wednesday that it has commenced the printing of more than 40 million voters card that will be used in the next general elections.
The Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, disclosed this at the International training seminar on national security held in Abuja as  put together by the Defence Intelligence School.

it will be recalled that  INEC only issued temporary voters cards in 2011.
He said that INEC had planned to print about 70.5 million cards, and that the ongoing printing was part of the total it had planned to produce. Jega had also stated that after the 40 million cards were printed, the Commission would commence another phase of the printing in 2013, hence more 30.5 voters’ cards would be produced.
He lauded the effort of INEC towards ensuring that the project becomes a reality even as he urged other members of the public to help INEC by way of encouragement so the ongoing project can be actualized.

“We have gone very far, we are producing the first batch which is about 40 million of the 73.5 million voters who have been registered.”
Jega had boasted that all registered members under any political party would be given a registered voters card before the end of 2013. This, Jega said was part of the Commission’s plan to ensure that everybody votes in 2015.
It was disclosed that the permanent voters’ cards bear security features such as barcode, hologram, micro text, fingerprints, and contactless/embedded chip with printed voter details alongside photograph.

The Commandant of the school, Wing.Cdr. Idris Hassan, said that the visit of the INEC boss had “availed the 30 participants with the understanding, working and the concepts of national security from the INEC perspectives.”
