Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 2-1 on the night and 4-4 on aggregate, to lift the Spanish Super Cup, on away goals, on Wednesday night.
Jose Mourinho’s men were handed a lifeline in the tie, after Victor Valdes’ late error in the first leg, allowed Angel Di Maria to make the final score 3-2. And in the second leg played at the Santiago Bernabeu, Madrid flew out of the blocks.
Gonzalo Higuain missed an early chance, before he latched on a long pass from Pepe and calmly slotted pass Valdes. Ronaldo doubled the lead, after tricking Pique and squeezing his shot under the goalkeeper. Messi scored a sensational free kick shortly before half time, which they ended with 10 men, after Adriano’s dismissal.
And although that goal reinvigorated Barca in the second half, they could not find another in the second, as Mourinho and his men clinched their first trophy of this season
