Just like every other developing country with different challenges, the Federal Government of Nigeria through its minister for education, Mr. Nyesom Wike has revealed that in a recent report over 11 million children of school age are roaming the streets. It was said that about nine million are children of beggars, fishermen and other less privileged parents.
The Minister maintained that the high increase of street children poses a great threat to the security of the nation.
Nysom made this known in Benin, following the direction of President Goodluck Jonathan to have a special school established in the South-East and South-South region mainly to cater for the educational needs of such kids from disadvantaged home.
